Our Story

Once upon a time in Pittsburgh, the Tomer family, known for slicing meat and strumming tunes, embarked on a grand adventure. They swapped city life for the siren call of Crawford County, setting down roots on what’s now Tomer Road in Frenchtown.Meet George Tomer, aka "Gumboots," the main character in this saga from the 1920s until 2009. His nickname came from his Pittsburgh charm, where rubber bands were "gum bands," and boots were "gumboots." Before "Sustainable Farming" and "Farm to Table" were buzzwords, it was just the Tomer way of life. Their legacy is about nurturing land, family, and spreading kindness like wildflowers.Working to keep George’s legacy alive, Gumboots Farms is a playground of innovation, with projects as cool as the people behind them. They invite you to visit the farm and join us in our tale of community, sustainability, and the love of land.

Today, Gumboots Family Farm is a true partnership built on old-school values and grit. Jeff, grandson of George Tomer, brings the veteran discipline and "boots on the ground" experience. Partnered with Dylanna—the suburban girl with a natural knack for the animals and the earth that just can’t be taught. As the heartbeat of the farm, she leads the daily operations with fierce intuition.

We’ve ditched the industrial mindset for traditional homesteading. Our KuneKune pigs, poultry, and sheep do the heavy lifting of healing the soil, proving you don't need fancy tech to build a legacy—just a sharp mind, a humble heart, and deep roots. No fluff, no filters—just authentic goodness from neighbors who speak your language
